The foundation follows strict regulatory guidelines in its financial and administrative management, and adds further voluntarily ethical stipulations of its own, including:
- A maximum of 10% of foundation income can be spent on organisational administration - including foundation staff salaries and administrative expenses.
- The balance of a minimumof 90% of all income must be re-directed back to specific projects, initiatives or investments on behalf of the foundation.
- No salaries or financial perks are provided for advisors, trustees, shareholders or executive / non-executive directors. Advisory roles are strictly honorary, and salaries are only paid to full or part time members of organisational management, administrative staff and interns.
- Minimisation of all ancillary costs from travel to accommodation, sustenance to entertainment, by following a strict ‘no-frills’ policy with expenses.
- Travel costs: low cost or economy flights only for project staff, advisors, staff or anyone else working on behalf of the foundation. Strictly no business class or first class flights, even for prominent public supporters, directors and executive staff members.
- Entry-level category rooms (no suites) for hotel accommodation, irrespective of seniority, for all staff, advisors, executive leadership and others working for or on behalf of the foundation.
- No alcohol, tobacco, meat or luxury food per diem expenses to be paid for using foundation funds under any circumstances.
- At least 50% of all foundation staff must be women, supported by a gender-neutral pay policy based on merit, competence and experience.
